If you're looking for some fresh ways to promote your shows, I have a few ideas to help. I've been pretty blessed the past year and I just want to help. Jim Gaffigan is the master, and I've stolen his templates and created my own brand. Below is a video I made with the app Quik. It took like 10 minutes! Marketing is the single most annoying part of the comedy world. I know I sometimes hate having to promote my shows, but it's a necessity. Even the top comics still promote. I'm sure Louis CK hates part of the marketing, but he still has a website with info. Like I wrote before, Gaffigan is the master. While marketing is annoying, marketing can be a fun process too. Think about how you can incorporate yourself into your marketing without simply creating a flyer each time. Here's an example of me stealing my love of Coen Brother films into my monthly schedule. I was able to create a funny title and promote my upcoming schedule. By doing this, my friends and followers will hopefully remember I'm a comedian first, promoter second. I I also try to create visually fun promotional materials. Here are the posters I made for my local shows. Audiences loved the visual layout and notice the lack of pictures of talent. While it may seem offensive at first, unless the talent is Jerry Seinfeld, paying audiences may be more impressed by the theme of the flyer than the picture. The owners of these venues loved the colors and enjoyed the playfulness of the marketing materials. Again. The images help create the theme of the show. I use the app Vanilla Pen to create the above images. These shows have attracted great audiences. Now, if I am going to use an image, use an image that gets people's attention. I started a bar show and showcased the lovely bartender instead of myself. More people showed interest, and I had people come to see the girl instead of just coming to see me. Sometimes being oddly simple on Instagram with info in the description can get a lot of likes and interest. I love this one. All my info was under the picture. People thought this was funny and non-intrusive to their social media intake. And of course I'll use me, but only when it's a fun candid or head shot conversion. And after each show I like to create a collage of pictures and images to show audiences the fun they missed. Many times I'll get comments wanting to know about the upcoming shows. I use Lipix for those promotional materials. Also. Don't be afraid to use Facebook Live or Snapchat to create fun videos for people to watch. Just today I ran into a coworker who told me he loves my videos. At the end of the day, don't see marketing as a chore...see it as an opportunity. Because if it's good enough for Jim Gaffigan...it's good enough for all of us! |
